What are eyelash extensions?Eyelash extensions are a popular beauty service that lengthens and thickens your natural eyelashes. Lash Extensions are single synthetic eyelashes that are curved to replicate a natural eyelash. Our Classic Eyelash Extensions are individually applied to the eyelash for a beautiful and luscious look. Our Volume Lashes are hand created, using very light, eyelash extensions. Eyelash extensions are the perfect way to enhance your lashes for daily wear and special occasions.
-
How long do eyelash extensions last?Eyelash extensions last 4-6 weeks on average depending on a number of factors such as aftercare, hair growth, types of activities, etc. With proper care and maintenance appointments, your extensions can last indefinitely.
-
What is the application process? Our eyelash extensions are applied, one by one, .5mm away from the eyelid to the natural eyelashes using a medical-grade adhesive. The lower lashes are covered and protected with a soothing gel pad during the application process. This relaxing process is painless; in fact, many clients take a nap. Lash extensions come in different lengths, thicknesses, and curls, results vary from subtle to dramatic.
-
How long does the application take?A full-set of Classic Eyelash Extensions takes approximately 2 - 2.5 hours. Hybrid and Volume Eyelash Extension Sets take approximately 3-4 hours. Touch-ups and Fills take 1.25 - 2 hours.
-
Is it safe for my eyes?Eyelash extensions are no worse than applying mascara. However, always check reviews and galleries of people's work to ensure you will be working with a professional. When done correctly, there should be no damage to the natural lash. Many of our clients have safely worn extensions for years.
-
What kind of adhesive do you use?We use a medical-grade formaldehyde-free adhesive. We carry a variety of top brands, inlcuding sensitive adhesives for those that need adhesive without the black carbon. The best way to see if our adhesives will work for you, is to schedule a consultation and ask for a patch test.
-
Will eyelash extensions damage my lashes? When eyelash extensions are properly applied, they will not damage your natural eyelashes. Your natural lashes are always shedding and growing back, the extensions will simply fall off with yours. The extensions themselves do not cause your lashes to fall out or become damaged unless your technician is applying extensions that are too long or thick for your natural lashes. You are in good hands with our knowledgeable and experienced lash artists.
-
What do eyelash extensions look like when applied?Lash extensions extend the length of your natural eyelashes. We perform a lash-for-lash application so you can expect perfectly separated, voluminous, gorgeously long lashes.

How do I care for my new lashes? The more meticulous you are about caring for your eyelash extensions, the longer you can expect them to last. 1. Only use water based and oil-free products around the eye area, including mascara and makeup remover. Oil breaks down the adhesive bond. Creams and serums should be applied sparingly, and no closer than the orbital bone. Anything that hasn't absorbed after 2 minutes can be blotted with a tissue or blotting paper. 2. Avoid waterproof mascara and eyeliner. To have longer lasting lashes, only use mascara and eyeliner that is compatible with eyelash extensions (look for our favorites in the shop). 3. Wash your eyelashes daily with an eyelash extension compatible cleanser. Cleanser is applied directly onto the lashes, rubbed gently in a downward motion and rinsed with water. Remember, eyelashes are meant to protect our eyes from debris, dirt, dust and need to be cleaned. Shop for cleansers during your next appointment. 4. Air dry thoroughly or blow dry on a cool setting, then gently brush the dried extensions with a clean mascara wand. 5. Avoid using cotton swabs or pads as they leave lint that catches on your extensions. 6. Avoid using an eyelash curler, it creates a kink in the eyelash extensions, reducing the life of your extensions. 7. Do not rub, pick, twist or pull at your lashes or eyelash extensions. If you would like them removed, please contact us to set up an appointment for a lash removal. It is quicker and safer to have them properly removed with the correct products. 8. If you can, sleep on your back to avoid the risk of lashes rubbing against your pillow. 9. Be gentle with your lashes. How you care for eyelash extensions will directly affect the look of your lashes, as well as, the length of time between touch-up appointments. 10. If you experience any pain, redness or irritation, contact us immediately.
-
Can I wear mascara or eyeliner? It is not recommended to wear mascara or eyeliner over the eyelash extensions, however, we do sell lash compatible mascara and eyeliners for those that want to wear it. Regular mascara can weaken the bond of the adhesive and cause a premature loss of the extensions. However, you may wear water-based, non waterproof mascara on the lower lashes, being careful when applying and removing. Waterproof mascara is never recommended. Mascara can not be used with Volume Eyelash Extensions.
-
Can I use lash curlers?Eyelash extensions do not require additional curling. If you are looking for more curl, we can discuss applying a curlier lash at your next appointment.
-
How will I know which "look" to choose?"We perform an in-depth consultation with visuals before applying your eyelash extensions to determine your desired effect, including which suitable lengths and diameters to use for your facial features and eye set.
-
What type of lashes do you use?We offer a variety of lash lengths, thickness, curl shapes and finishes from top industry brands. Our large selection creates the perfect compliment for your unique eyes. All lashes are synthetic and cruelty free.
-
What if I have skin sensitivities and allergies?Skin sensitivities and allergies are rare, however, your safety and care is our utmost concern. We carry a variety of adhesives, many that are gentle for those with sensitive eyes. If you experience any discomfort during the eyelash extension application, please notify your technician and they can switch to an adhesive for sensitive eyes. If you are concerned, please call NW Lash and Beauty Studio for a quick test a few days before your appointment.
-
Do I need an appointment?Yes! If we have the availability, we will gladly accept a walk-in appointment, however, an appointment is best and the only way that we can guarantee that we can get you in on the day/time that you desire. It is best to book your appointments out two or more at a time, to ensure that you get a specific day/time that works with your schedule. Book online or call 503.512.7435. Please be sure to note our cancellation and rescheduling policy.
-
Before your appointment:Avoid using waterproof mascara 2-3 days before your appointment. It can leave a film on your lashes which prevents the extensions from adhering correctly. Arrive to your appointment with dry, clean lashes and no makeup. The more time we have to spend cleaning your lashes, the less time you have for the application resulting in fewer lashes applied. For your comfort and safety, it is best to remove contact lenses before your appointment.
-
24-hours AFTER your lash extension application:Avoid hot steam from showers, facials, saunas, and swimming pools for 24 hours. Avoid tanning beds for 24 hours after application and make sure your eyelashes and eye area are covered during tanning sessions. Avoid chemical peels, waxing or laser treatments around the eyes. If you experience any pain, redness or irritation, contact us immediately.
-
What is in my Aftercare Kit?Each of our full sets comes with an Eyelash Extension Cleanser, Cleansing Brush and Lash Wands to brush your lashes.
-
What is a Lash Lift?A lash lift is a quick and easy procedure that curls, lifts and shapes natural lashes. Your lashes are safely extended upwards from root to tip, creating a longer lifted appearance that draws more attention to your eyes. The process takes roughly 45 minutes, 60 if you add a tint, which enhances impact, lasting 6-8 weeks. We currently perform Elleebana Lash Lifts. We love this brand for its ultra-hydrating keratin treated formula.
-
Before Your Lash Lift:Do not apply conditioning serum 48 hours prior to your lash lift appointment. Do not wear mascara or eye makeup the day of your lash lift appointment. Please do not use oily makeup remover the day before or day of your appointment. These products can negatively impact application of lashes. If you have a spray tan, ensure there is no residual product on your lashes. Please remove contact lenses before your lash lift appointment. Plan to wear your glasses.
-
Post Lash Lift Care instructions:Do not get your lashes wet for 24 hours after your lift. Apply your Clear Keratin Gel daily to ensure that your lashes stay lifted and healthy. A Lash Lift is curl to your natural lashes, therefore they last as long as your natural lashes last. During the next few weeks, you will begin to notice less lift of your natural lashes as your “lifted” natural lashes shed and new, straight natural lashes replace them. To maintain your lash lift, return for a follow-up lash lift appointment approximately 6-8 weeks from your initial appointment date.

What is a Lash or Brow Tint?Lash and brow tinting is a quick and simple treatment that enhances the color of your lashes and brows with the help of vegetable dye. The entire process typically takes around 30 minutes for both treatments and requires no downtime after your appointment. Before any dye is used, your esthetician will discuss your options. Colors will be chosen based on your hair, skin, and eye color. Brow dye is applied directly onto eyebrows and sits for a couple minutes until coloring is achieved. Tinting the eyelashes involves a few more steps, but is still very simple. A protective barrier like Vaseline is lightly applied under the bottom lashes to prevent the dye from staining the skin, an eye pad is then applied over the barrier to protect your skin. Your eyes will be closed for the entire process. Similar to brow tinting, the dye is brushed onto lashes and is left to process for a few minutes before wiping off any excess product and removing the eye pad. Most eyebrow and eyelash tints will last between four to six weeks with the dye subtly fading until your lashes and brows return to their natural color. Proper aftercare treatment can help make the results last longer: Wear a hat and/or sunglasses in the sun. Strong sunlight/UV light can make the tint color fade faster. Avoid cleansers with AHA’s or other chemical exfoliates may decrease the life of your tint. A gentle, oil-free facial cleanser or eye makeup remover is recommended.

What is a Face Studies?A Face Studies is the process of taking detailed measurements of your facial features, in order to design a set of lash extensions that will flatter your features and enhance your eye shape. Instead of a mere application, this allows for a true customization of your set of lash extensions. Your lash artist will go over your results and discuss the options that best suit your features and desired effect. In order to perform a Face Studies, new clients need to submit a full face passport style photo via email, a minium of 2 hours before their appointment. For best results, we suggest taking your photo in a well lit area, preferably near a window, without eye makeup and your hair pulled back. If you don't feel comfortable taking your photo yourself, please arrive early to your appointment and we can take it for you. This will also give you time to fill out your new client intake forms and enjoy a beverage like a mimosa or hot tea before your appointment. Please Contact us for any questions.
